  • BARRY DILLER, the chairman of Vivendi Universal's entertainment division, announced that he would resign from his post, but continue to run USA Interactive.

  • Viacom president and chief operating officer MEL KARMAZIN has signed a three-year contract to remain with the company. Chairman and chief executive SUMNER M. REDSTONE also received a new contract.

  • Horizon Media announced that Christie Calahan has been promoted to media planning supervisor and Maxine Harris and Susana Alonso have been promoted to media planners. Calahan advances to media planning supervisor, from senior media planner. She began her career at Horizon in December 2000. Prior to joining Horizon, Calahan was an account manager at Initiative Media. Harris was promoted to media planner from assistant media planner. Prior to joining Horizon, Harris was a group assistant in account management at J. Walter Thompson in New York. Alonso also advances to media planner from assistant media planner, and prior to joining Horizon, worked at MTV Networks/Viacom as a sales assistant at VH-1.

  • Also at Horizon Media, NICOLE ACCORDINO has been appointed group-planning supervisor and will head up one of their two planning department groups. Accordino joins Horizon from MindShare where she was an associate planning director on the Kodak Consumer Imaging business.

  • JOE OSTROW, slated to step down as president and CEO of the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau on March 31st, has agreed to remain on for an additional two months at the request of CAB's Board of Directors. The extension will allow the Board of Directors to finalize a search for Ostrow's successor.

  • JIM FERGUSON has resigned from his post as chief creative officer of Young & Rubicam, a position he has held since 1999. Ferguson is returning to DDB, becoming evp, creative consultant. Ferguson previously served as creative director for the agency.

  • DraftWorldwide Chicago has hired MATTHEW WISE (left) and PHILIP LOFTUS as senior vice president, group account directors. Wise will work on the Brite Smile account, and Loftus will be in charge of the Masterfoods account. Prior to joining DraftWorldwide, Wise was general manager at Delphion, where he directed activities in sales, customer service and product management while overseeing marketing, software development and finance. Loftus comes to DraftWorldwide from 141 Worldwide, Chicago, where he was senior vice president, director of account service since 1995.

  • Also at DraftWorldwide Chicago, JANET BARKER has been promoted to executive vice president, group creative director from senior vice president, group creative director. Barker will lead core accounts that cross various marketing services including promotion, direct and digital.

  • Eyeblaster announced that PAUL KADIN has been named Executive Vice President of Marketing and Strategy. Kadin will be responsible for leading Eyeblaster's marketing and new revenue initiatives including E-Commerce and CRM solutions. Prior to joining Eyeblaster, Kadin served as Executive Vice President for Viewpoint Corporation, where he was responsible for business development activities overseeing relationships with AOL/TW and other clients.

  • Meredith Corporation has named KATHRYN ROSS Managing Director for Meredith Integrated Marketing. Prior to joining Meredith, Ross was as Associate Director for The Reader's Digest working in integrated marketing. Previously, Ross held several sales positions at companies such as USA Weekend magazine, and Market Place Media.

  • ERIN PILLER has been named Research Manager at Entrepreneur Media. Piller joins Entrepreneur from FCB Southern California, where she worked as a Senior Media Planner since 1999. At Entrepreneur, Piller will support management, sales, and marketing in their efforts to build the client-base for the various EMI brand platforms.

  • ANTHONY GRASSO and PATRICK G. BOEGEL have joined The Scheer Advertising Group/ Norman J. Stevens Advertising Agency as Production/Traffic Manager and Media Supervisor respectively. Prior to joining the company, Grasso worked for the Cendant Corporation and DKB & Partners, where his clients included Blue Cross Blue Shield, Subaru of America, Ramada, and Days Inn. Boegel joins the company from Kirshenbaum Bond and Partners where he spent more than three years as Media Supervisor.

  • Another new hire at The Scheer Advertising Group/ Norman J. Stevens Advertising Agency is BETH A. DOWNEY as Media Director. Downey will be responsible for the creation, implementation and management of strategic media plans for the agency's clients. Most recently, Downey worked at DKB & Partners where she served as Media Supervisor.

  • LISA BANSAVAGE has been named Marketing Communications Director for CramSession.com. Bansavage comes from StreamingMedia.com where she ran the marketing operations for online research. Prior to her position with Streaming Media, she was Marketing Director for DirectNet Advertising, where she led the marketing efforts for online and direct response marketing.

  • CARTER NICHOLAS has been named Director of Business Development at CheckM8. Previously, Nicholas served as VP of International Media at DoubleClick. Prior to that, Nicholas was responsible for business and product development at AdOne Classified Network, where he developed new revenue streams from classified advertising for the company's 500 newspaper clients.

  • KEVIN GARRITY has been named President of Interep's subsidiary company, ABC Radio Sales. Garrity, formerly Senior Vice President and Director of National Sales for ABC, succeeds GEORGE PINE, who became President and COO of Interep. Garrity will be responsible for national sales and marketing of ABC's 27 radio stations in 10 markets, as well as all Radio Disney properties. Pine will oversee all of Interep's radio representation firms. He will also be responsible for client development, client service, and the achievement of new business development goals.

  • MICHELLE ALTMAN has been promoted to Project Specialist at The Goltz Seering Agency. In her new position, Altman will work with the agency's media, public relations, and traffic departments, and coordinate monthly agency mailings and assist with new business research.

  • Primedia has recently promoted MICHAEL BEHRINGER, ANDREW LEVY and JASJA DE SMEDT. Behringer has been named Executive Vice President, Development and Financial Products Group for HPCi, the online division of the Consumer Guides Group. Levy joins Primedia International as Vice President and Managing Director after most recently serving as Assistant Vice President in the Strategy and Operations Department for Primedia. De Smedt takes over as Vice President Business Development for the Consumer Magazine and Media Group. She was previously Managing Director of Primedia International.

  • DIA STEIN has been named Director of Programming for LAUNCH Radio Networks (LRN). As Director of Programming, Stein will oversee the creation and development of all of LRN's programming services. Prior to joining Launch Radio Networks, Stein served as Senior Director of Programming for Westwood One.

  • JENNIFER FABER, formerly with Clear Channel Outdoor Chicago, is the new Regional Sales Manager at JCDecaux Chicago. Faber's responsibilities include managing and selling customized bus shelters, which are installed throughout the Chicago area, along with selling mallscape advertising.

  • BRYAN EVERETT has been named Vice President of West Coast Sales for Twelve Horses North America, a provider of email and web-based marketing and business automation solutions. Most recently, Everett was Vice President of West Coast Sales for 24/7 Real Media, a position he held for the past 3 years.

  • CAROL KOLHOUSE recently resigned her managerial post with TMP to join Cramer-Krasselt Co.'s Yellow Pages Division. Kolhouse will head an account service team that will handle new business accounts that resulted from Cramer-Krasselt's recent acquisition of a California-based Yellow Pages agency.

  • CMD promoted THERESA TRELSTAD from account manager to account director. Trelstad will manage the strategic direction of several of the agency’s largest accounts. She has been with CMD for seven years, and prior to joining the company worked as a media supervisor with the Evans Group.

  • Thinkbig Media has appointed BRIAN COE as their Director of Business Development. Most recently, Coe was a national account supervisor for new business development at Kelston International Advertising. Prior to that, he worked for Alcone Marketing Group as a senior account executive.

  • The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America has appointed MARK D. ABRAMS Corporate Branding Officer. In this newly created position, Abrams will oversee all external and internal communications functions, including advertising, public relations, executive and employee communications, collateral development, and all branding related initiatives. Most recently, Abrams was a strategic marketing and communications consultant, serving as a Partner with the Artustry Partnership.
