  • Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion, a home decorating, creativity, and craft magazine, has appointed JOHN A. PAGLIARO as publisher. Most recently, Pagliaro was publisher of Old House Journal and has held advertising sales and publishing management positions at Popular Mechanics, Bob Vila's American Home, and Good Housekeeping.


  • JOANNE EVANS has joined MediaMixNet as executive vice president, business development, from senior vice president, director of strategic planning at Kelly, Scott, and Madison.


  • Barry Group Inc. announced that EDWARD S. EPSTEIN has joined the company as senior account supervisor. Epstein will oversee client services and direct strategic development. Prior to joining Barry Group, he served as senior account supervisor for Sendtec Marketing Inc.


  • GHERI ARNOLD (pictured) and DAVID FALCONE have been promoted to vice presidents/creative directors of marketing for Discovery Networks, U.S. Arnoldwilloversee creative marketing direction for Animal Planet, Discovery Health Channel, and FitTV, and Falcone will oversee creative marketing direction for the Travel Channel, The Science Channel, Military Channel, and Discovery On Demand. Arnold most recently served as creative director for Discovery Health Channel and FitTV where she successfully positioned Discovery Health Channel as a top network in the Discovery Communications brand family. Falcone previously served as creative director for Discovery’s emerging networks, and oversaw the development and implementation of creative strategy for The Science Channel, Military Channel (formerly Discovery Wings Channel), Discovery Home Channel, and Discovery en Español.


  • Modernista! has named THOM DONAHUE as senior studio designer. He will work on a variety of the agency’s clients including General Motor’s Hummer account. Prior to joining the agency, Donahue spent four years with Clarke Goward, Boston, most recently as studio manager.  


  • SFGT, Philadelphia, has hired JENNY PAYNE as account executive on Sunoco. Previously, Payne held the same title at Dudnyk Advertising, where she worked on BASF, and before that, at Tierney Communications, where she worked on Sunoco and Cytec chemicals.


  • Forbes.com has added ALBERT BOZZO as director of video programming. Bozzo will be responsible for overseeing the company's burgeoning video capabilities. Most recently he was deputy managing editor at TheStreet.com. Prior to TheStreet.com, he was managing editor, Europe, for Bloomberg TV, responsible for global newsgathering at the multi-lingual, TV broadcaster.


  • EILEEN BENWITT has joined Horizon Media as senior vice president, director of human resources. Benwitt will lead the human resources department in developing and implementing initiatives that will enhance the needs of Horizon’s employee base. She will also be a member of the Horizon Operating Committee. Benwitt comes to Horizon from MPG, New York, where she was executive vice president, human resources. Prior to MPG, she spent 12 years at Porter Novelli. 


  • Falk has hired SAMANTHA GASKE, former account director at MyPoints, as West Coast account director to head its new Los Angeles office.


  • Ryan Partnership has added LISSA SEEBERGER as vice president of Ryan Consumer Insights.  Prior to joining Ryan, Seeberger was senior vice president, group director at Wunderman in New York, working on Microsoft.


  • The AARP Bulletin has tapped JAMES TOEDTMAN as its new editor. Toedtman is a 20-year veteran of Newsday, having served as the managing editor responsible for the production of the New York City issue of the paper and later as its Washington Bureau Chief and as chief economics correspondent. Toedtman was also executive editor of the Boston Herald American and editor of the Baltimore News American.


  • LookSmart has hired CHARLES THEISS as its senior vice president, business development and promoted MICHAEL GRUBB to senior vice president, technology and chief technology officer. Theiss has held senior positions at Lycos, where he ran sales, business development, and operations as a vice president. Prior to that, he was both a vice president and senior vice president at CNN. Grubb joined LookSmart in September 2002 as vice president, technology operations.


  • RACHEL BAUMGARTEN has been promoted to vice president, integrated marketing at MTV. In addition, CATHERINE BALSAM-SCHWABER joined MTV Integrated Marketing in Los Angeles as senior director; CARRYL PIERRE has been named director, MTV business development; and SEAN PHILLIPS has been named director, integrated marketing for mtvU. Baumgarten will be charged with heading up the newly formed client services group, which will focus primarily on providing the ad sales team with vital support to maintain and grow existing client relationships. Balsam-Schwaber will be working with MTV original series development to oversee integrations and the Los Angeles ad sales team to strengthen relationships with West Coast-based advertisers. Pierre will work with the ad sales group’s new business team to develop relationships with potential advertisers. Lastly, Phillips will work to continue to grow the mtvU brand and bring it into the future.
