  • Draft has hired WALKYRIA "WALLY" REY as vice president, director of cross-cultural marketing. Rey most recently was a consultant for Dyson Inc., where she led trade and online marketing and new product launches for the vacuum manufacturer. Prior to Dyson, Rey worked with AT&T Wireless, Clorox, and the U.S. Army as a cross-cultural marketing consultant focused on reaching Hispanic, African-American, and Asian consumers.


  • ANGELA BURT-MURRAY has been named editor-in-chief of ESSENCE magazine. Burt-Murray worked at ESSENCE from 1998 to 2001, and most recently served as executive editor of Teen People.


  • MIKE CONNOLLY has been named senior vice president, sales for ABC Radio Networks. Connolly was previously vice president of sales for ESPN Radio Network. Connolly will be responsible for developing and overseeing ABC Radio Networks' advertising sales strategies to maximize revenues across all properties including ABC News Radio, ESPN Radio, syndicated talk and entertainment programming, as well as the networks' Urban and Hispanic initiatives and 24-hour formats.


  • MSNBC.com has named JENNIFER SIZEMORE as deputy editor-news. Sizemore joins MSNBC.com from the Houston Chronicle, where she served as deputy managing editor.


  • InsightExpress has expanded its research and analytical capabilities by establishing three new market research positions in its Stamford, Conn. headquarters. TODD THOMAS TRAUTZ and RUSSELL KEHOE have joined the company as market research managers, and LACEY FABRIZIO has joined the firm as market research analyst. Trautz joins InsightExpress from Millward Brown, where he was a senior research executive responsible for managing research initiatives from survey design through analysis and results reporting. Kehoe joins InsightExpress from Information Resources Inc., where he was responsible for managing the complete research process for various brands. Fabrizio, previously a consultant for InsightExpress, joins the firm from Millward Brown where she was a market research executive.


  • SAMANTHA FEINSTEIN has joined Gearon Hoffman as an account supervisor. Feinstein will work on the agency’s Tufts and Museum of Science accounts. Prior to joining Gearon Hoffman, Feinstein was an advertising/brand associate with UBS Investment Bank in New York City.


  • Boulanger & Associates, Dedham, Mass., has added HEATHER CLARKE as director of account service. Clarke will work with clients to understand their marketing challenges and identify solutions. Prior to joining the agency, Clarke was director of business development for the SciTech Division of Skanska USA in Boston.


  • LAURIE NATIONS has been elected president of the Chicago Chapter of Women in Direct Marketing International (WDMI). Nations, who continues in her post as senior vice president and group account director at Draft Chicago, will take office on July 28.


  • Meredith Corporation has named BRENDAN SMYTH as the Eastern advertising director of Family Circle. Smyth will oversee the sales efforts for the New York, Northeast, Middle Atlantic, and Southeast territories for the magazine. Smyth spent the last four years as was the Eastern advertising manager of Midwest Living. Prior to that, Smyth served for four years as an account executive at Better Homes and Gardens magazine.


  • MPG Canada, MPG’s Canadian unit, has named GERARDO MARIÑAS as managing director. Mariñas joins the Toronto headquarters of MPG Canada following seven years working within MPG Global in a variety of positions. He was most recently senior vice president of International Coordination, streamlining operations across countries and markets. He has also managed MPG's global relationships with key clients, including DIAGEO, France Telecom, and Carrefour. Mariñas will report to Charlie Rutman, CEO of MPG North America.


  • The Business Planning Group (BPG) at McGarrah/Jessee has hired SUSAN VERRILL, most recently a brand planner at Arnold Worldwide in Boston, Mass. Verrill was at Arnold for five years, where she played a key role in the agency’s strategic planning for Volkswagen.


  • JENNY FINE has joined Ideal Exposure as director of strategic accounts.


  • ROB WILK has been named the director of marketing at Dennis Publishing's new online, mobile, and video division Dennis Digital. Wilk will oversee the marketing staff and lead the push to increase Web site traffic on all of Dennis Digital's online entities. Prior to joining Dennis Digital, Wilk was the director of search engine marketing at Avenue A | Razorfish Search, the search engine marketing division of Avenue A | Razorfish.


  • Karacters Design Group has named JOHN FURNEAUX as managing director of the agency’s Toronto operation. For the last 15 years, Furneaux worked at Toronto-based Ove Design & Communications where he most recently served as executive vice president.


  • GE Commercial Finance Global Media & Communications has named THOMAS M. BYRNE as senior vice president, origination. He will be responsible for originating and structuring debt transactions for companies in the cable and telecom sectors. Byrne joined GE in 2002, most recently serving as senior vice president for GE Commercial Finance's Corporate Lending group.


  • American Business Media has appointed VICKIE SZOMBATHY vice president, media director of StarLink Worldwide, the chairperson for the recently formed Media Advisory Board. As chairperson, Szombathy will direct the board in achieving their goal to identify best practices and determine ways to provide value to marketers through targeted research and the dissemination of needed information that will assist in documenting the value of business-to-business media.


  • Smith Brothers Advertising has hired MICHAEL BOLLINGER as director of client services. He joins the agency from DDB Worldwide.


  • DAN RUSSELL has been named vice president of programming for Discovery Health Channel. Prior to joining Discovery Health Channel, Russell was vice president of programming at Travel Channel, working with production companies from around the world to develop the network’s schedules in daytime, primetime, and late night.


  • Landor Associates, a global branding and design consultancy, has promoted three senior executives and hired a new London managing director. CHARLIE WRENCH will assume the role of Landor president and will be responsible for managing all 23 Landor offices worldwide. In addition, MARK KENNEDY has been promoted to chief strategy officer and PETER KNAPP as executive creative director, Europe & Middle East. Lastly, CHERYL GIOVANNONI joins Landor from Coley Porter Bell as the managing director of London.


  • Ebates, an online shopping portal that gives consumers cash back every time they shop, has hired MARKUS MULLARKEY as senior vice president of sales and marketing. Mullarkey comes to Ebates from CNET Networks, where he held several executive leadership roles throughout six years with the company. Most recently he led marketing and business planning for the company’s shopping services and advice unit.


  • ImpreMedia, a Spanish-language newspaper publisher in the U.S., has named FRANCISCO LOZANO sales development director for ImpreMedia. He will be responsible for driving national advertising revenue through major corporate projects. DONALD BORUCKI has been named director of national and major account sales for La Opinión, responsible for sales and revenue objectives for the national and major account categories, including advertising agencies and major retailers. In addition, he assumes responsibility for the National Retail Advertising category for ImpreMedia. Lastly, CLAUDIA MONTOYA has been appointed to the position of national sales manager for La Opinión and also ImpreMedia's national account manager for the Western region. Previously, Montoya was national account supervisor for La Opinión.


  • Scripps Networks has promoted WILLIAM CROSBY to a new position of senior vice president of broadband programming and production. Crosby will supervise the existing broadband team and work with Web sites and brands to create content platforms composed of online/interactive services that will focus on vertical subjects in the home/food/lifestyle categories.
