Univision's Ad Showing Ups Revs 10%
Strong advertising gains helped Univision Communications add nearly 10% to its revenue coffers in the fourth quarter 2012.
Fourth-quarter revenue climbed 9% to $672 million for the
Spanish-language media company's TV, radio and digital businesses.
Looking at just its TV business, primarily driven by its Univision, UniMas, and Galavision networks, as well as its
TV stations, revenues climbed 5% to $543 million. Operating income was down 3% to $239 million.
Overall, Univision's cut its net loss substantially to $27.7 million from a year-ago loss of
$356 million, thanks to lower provisions for income taxes.
Randy Falco, president and CEO of Univision Communications, stated: "By expanding and evolving our offerings to meet the demands
of our dynamic community, we are now reaching Hispanic audiences in more ways than ever before through 12 networks."
Digital revenues more than doubled to $39.6 million from $16.8 million a
year ago.
Univision continues to tout its growing young viewers at the expense of traditional English-language based TV broadcast networks. Falco says:"Univision Network increased its
ranking among the major U.S. networks for the full-year 2012 by beating CBS to take the No. 4 spot in broadcast primetime among adults 18-to-34."
Univision has some 12 networks, 69 radio
stations and 62 television stations.
