Netflix Launches ISP Index

  • March 11, 2013

When your business depends on people’s Internet connections, it probably makes sense to rate them.

Netflix has launched the “Netflix ISP Speed Index,” a new Web site that tells consumers which Internet service providers will give them the best streaming experience. The site, updated on a monthly basis, allows consumers to compare ISPs in many of the countries where Netflix is available, such as the United States, Mexico, Ireland, U.K., Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.  The data is based on usage from more than 33 million Netflix members who have viewed more than one billion hours of streamed content.

Among some of the initial findings from February: Google Fiber in the U.S. provides the highest bitrate in the world, followed by Sweden’s Ownit; subsribers in Finland have the highest average bitrates, while subscribers in Mexico have the lowest.
