ImpreMedia Gives 'El Diario' A Design Makeover

El Diario La Prensa, the venerable Hispanic newspaper founded in 1913, is getting a fresh new look and format intended to make the country’s oldest Spanish daily more engaging for a changing target audience.

In addition to a new cover design, the new format for the New York-based tabloid daily centers on five main editorial categories, including News, You and Your Family, Money and Jobs, Sports and Entertainment. It will also feature tips, recommendations and how-to guides.

Within this overall structure, the newspaper will offer more reporting on education, immigration, health, housing and small business, as well as news from Central and South America.

On the sports front, El Diaro promises even more coverage of soccer, as well as New York’s pro sports and local youth athletics. The new format also features greater emphasis on social media and mobile channels, including the incorporation of social media commentary and multiplatform delivery of content.

2014 has already been a big year for ImpreMedia, which announced the launch of a new weekly glossy magazine devoted to soccer, Quiero Más Fútbol (I Want More Soccer), in May. The magazine will begin publishing in conjunction with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, set to begin next week on June 12. It will be distributed in La Opinion in Los Angeles and El Diario in New York City.

It will continue publication after the World Cup with coverage of regional and national championships.

The launch of ImpreMedia’s Quiero Más Fútbol came not long after the Los Angeles Times Media Group unveiled Hoy Deportes, a new Spanish-language weekly sports newspaper covering local, national and international sports, including scores, game reports and athlete profiles; not coincidentally Hoy Deportes was also launched just in time to provide ample coverage of the World Cup.

In April, Univision Deportes unveiled a new World Cup app, created in collaboration with NeuLion, which offers fans access to live streaming coverage of all the World Cup games on smartphones and tablets, as well as PCs, along with in-match video highlights, stats, updates, match schedules, club news and team rosters
