Site Specific: Scorsese Directs First Super Bowl Spot For Squarespace

Squarespace, the web design platform, is making its 10th appearance at The Super Bowl in a spot directed by Oscar winner Martin Scorsese.

The 30-second "Hello Down There", produced by Squarespace's in-house agency, runs during the first half of the game on Sunday. Here is the extended 90-second spot.

The longer ad begins with a young boy watching clips and actual news reports of extraterrestrials and UFO sightings. Extraterrestrials are trying to make contact with people on Earth. But wherever in the world they go — New York, the Eiffel Tower, Japan's Shibuya Crossing — they are ignored. Humans are so preoccupied by digital content, they don't bother noticing the flying saucers overhead.

Unable to make contact, the intergalactic spacemen try a new tactic: a Squarespace site using Fluid Engine. Suddenly, people notice! The tagline: "A website makes it real."

"At my age, it's a stretch finding a directorial debut. When Squarespace first approached me to create a spot, I thought this was my shot," said Martin Scorsese. "Let's go big, let's do something out of this world ... It's going to launch on this show called Super Bowl? Supposed to be big!"

The Super Bowl ad is part of Squarespace's global content marketing campaign that runs across digital and social channels throughout the first half of 2024.
