Attention Shoppers: CBS Outernet Teams With GameStop

GameStop TV screengrabCBS Outernet will build a place-based video network serving 4,000 GameStop retail locations, the companies announced Thursday, marking another big expansion of the TV network's place-based strategy.

The addition of thousands of video-game retail operations promises to give CBS, and its advertisers, even greater reach among tech-savvy young men ages 18-34--a desirable but increasingly elusive target demo.

CBS Outernet will handle ad sales for the network exclusively.

The place-based network, called GameStop TV, will feature product promotions, game previews, developer interviews and custom content drawn from various CBS media properties. It's expected to be complete by the end of 2009, if not before.

GameStop's retail locations attract 73 million shopping visits a month. The creation of a GameStop network will effectively double the overall reach of CBS Outernet to over 150 million shoppers, the company claims.

CBS Outernet is currently anchored by SignStorey, an in-store network serving 1,300 grocery stores and supermarkets. In 2007, CBS also partnered with Healium, a video network serving waiting rooms in doctors' offices that will include 120,000 medical practices by the end of 2008, delivering 3 million viewers per month. And in January, CBS struck a deal to provide content and advertising to Ripple.

CBS Outernet joined the Out-of-home Video Advertising Bureau (OVAB) in April of this year.
