SeeSaw Adds New York Transit Networks

taxi screenJust as digital out-of-home video networks are still growing, so are the meta-networks that aggregate them to allow large-scale ad buying. Most recently, SeeSaw announced that it is adding three new networks reaching commuters, business professionals and tourists in New York's various transit systems.

Altogether, the three networks cover more than 1,000 locations through the city, including taxis and high-traffic transit infrastructure, augmenting SeeSaw's existing portfolio of digital out-of-home networks in New York City.

The first new addition, Showcase Media Group, gives SeeSaw's advertising clients access to interactive digital screens in the back seats of taxis. Showcase's taxi network includes about 1,000 vehicles, or roughly 8% of the city's 13,000 medallion "yellow cabs." The interactive screens allow ads to be targeted geographically, based on data from the system's GPS component.

Affinity Ferry Network operates digital video displays in two ferry terminals: Pier 79 and Pier 78, located at W. 39th St. and W. 38th St., respectively. Here, thousands of commuters from New Jersey wait for the ferry each day, and tourists line up for NY Waterway Tours.

According to the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council, in 2007, the Pier 79 terminal handled about 14,000 commuters per day. Separate figures for Pier 78 weren't available.

The third new addition, City 24/7, is a public service that is creating a network of digital video advertising in phone booths around New York, concentration in train stations and other transit centers. The 26-inch digital video touchscreen displays, installed in partnership with Verizon and various landmark property owners, carry safety and consumer information.
