Carl's Jr. Opens Eco-Friendly Flagship Unit

On Tuesday, the chain opened its new flagship restaurant in Carpinteria, Calif., two miles from the corporate headquarters of parent company CKE Restaurants, Inc.

The new Carl's Jr. location is an environmentally friendly unit where sustainability, conservation and energy efficiency will be measured and evaluated for potential company-wide implementation at both Carl's Jr. restaurants and at sister-chain Hardee's.

The company says some of the conservation efforts are already in use at both brands.--Nina Lentini

    no burger maker can be green, current meat processing creates tons of CO2 and destroys acres of rain forest each year. This is classic greenwashing.

    Anne Marie et al., I ought to have elaborated. In any case, this is what I found reported today: "We collect rain water to water the plants, we have solar panels, there's special insulation. There's LED lighting which is very efficient. We put in a bike rack, so we put in a shower for employees who ride their bikes. We have a hawk that kept coming here so we put in a hawk perch, " says CKE Restaurants CEO, Andrew Puzder. "So we really did a lot of things at this restaurant that we could do in other restaurants throughout the system."
