What is the biggest irony about the current media era? Well, according to New York Times journalist David E. Sanger, author of the book, "The Inheritance," it's the fact that big media organizations like the New York Times are attracting more users and readers than ever before, but that they haven’t found a way of making any money with it.

“In November, we had something just short of a billion page views,” he told the Four As media conference attendees. “But at the same time, we are going through the hardest economic times.”

His biggest fear, he said, is that if the current economics prevail, America may lose “the ability to do what the founders wanted us to do.” Meaning, having a free press to serve as a check and balance on the other major estates.
