President Obama named Vivek Kundra to a new post: federal chief information officer, a job that did not exist in previous administrations. Kundra, who operates under the aegis of the White house, will
oversee how government agencies purchase and use information technology and will ensure that agencies' networks and systems work together, reports
The Washington Post. Obama is also expected to
appoint a chief technology officer who will work closely with Kundra. Previously, Kundra oversaw technology projects and budgets for 86 agencies. Before that, he served as Virginia Gov. Timothy M.
Kaine's assistant secretary of commerce and trade, and later as assistant secretary of technology.
