Smartphones now account for one-third of mobile ad impressions worldwide, according to the latest data from ad network AdMob.
Phones using the Symbian operating system accounted for
the most ad impressions (43%) in February but continued to lose market share. The iPhone alone generated one-third of impressions globally and 50% in the U.S. The top five smartphones also include the
Nokia N70, BlackBerry 8300, Nokia N80, and Nokia N73.
Google's Android operating system, which powers T-Mobile's G1, accounts for 5% of U.S. smartphone traffic. The Samsung BlackJack II was the
top Windows Mobile device, with six of the top 10 Windows Mobile phones coming from Taiwanese handset maker HTC. For Verizon, the BlackBerry Storm was the leading device, accounting for 14% of ad
impressions from the wireless operator.--Mark Walsh
