Just an Online Minute... Are You Overpaid?

Here are some interesting marketing salary stats.

Results from the 2001 Marketing Professionals Salary Survey, conducted jointly by the Association for Interactive Media, HeadHunter.net, MarketingSherpa.com and WebSurveyor Corporation, show that 92% of marketing executives responding reported that knowing how to market effectively on the Internet is an important factor to their success.

Interestingly, the perceived importance of Internet marketing skills decreased the farther down the organizational ladder the respondent was. For instance, only 34.8% of staff-level employees felt that these skills were critical, but 1 in 4 managers and staff members reported that Internet Marketing was not important.

By marketing specialty, the least likely to report that Internet marketing skills were critical were in sales support (22.4%) and public relations (20.9%). On the other end of the spectrum, 51.3% of media buyers and planners stated that Internet marketing skills were critical.

Internet marketing specialists responding to the survey averaged $66,030 annually, with annual bonuses ranging from $4,000 to $15,000. This compensation placed them at exactly the average for all marketing professionals.

However, Internet marketers were far more likely to say they felt they were "overpaid" than any other marketer. A total of 6.7% felt they were overpaid for their job. Additionally, Internet marketing professionals were less likely than any other group to be actively looking for a job at this time.
