Paris' most famous department store has opened the world's largest dedicated shoe space, reports
Women's Wear Daily, with Galeries Lafayette turning its basement into a 34,500-square-foot shoe
extravaganza.
That makes it about one-third larger than the shoe space at either Harrods or Saks Fifth Avenue. WWD reports that French women are the shoe-savviest, buying an
average of six pairs a year, with 17% admitting that they own more than 20 pairs. Says a Galeries Lafayette exec: "Shoes have become the number-one desire, ahead of sunglasses and bags."--Sarah
