Imus To Simulcast On FBN

Don Imus has signed a deal with the Fox Business Network to simulcast the live video feed of his show "Imus in the Morning," which airs weekdays from 6 a.m.-9 a.m. News of the deal comes not long after Imus dropped his simulcast partnership with RFD-TV.

As part of the move, "Imus in the Morning" will feature more business news, according to FBN, in the form of breaking financial news reported by the anchors of "Fox Business Morning," which precedes "Imus in the Morning" in the 5 a.m.-6 a.m. time slot.

Imus will probably stick to the subjects that have made his show a perennial favorite -- despite episodes of controversy -- including politics, sports and popular culture. Still, his general stance -- which might be described as curmudgeonly populist conservatism -- fits well with FBN's mission.

FBN Executive Vice President Kevin Magee cited the shock jock's qualifications, including "40 years of on-air experience combined with his superb interviewing skills and capitalist sensibilities."

"Money for Breakfast," which currently airs in FBN's 7 a.m.-9 a.m. time slot, ends Oct. 2.

Imus was cashiered by CBS Radio in April 2007 after calling African-American members of the Rutgers' women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos." In the wake of this racist remark, most major advertisers withdrew from his CBS show and the MSNBC-televised simulcast, including Staples Inc., Bigelow Teas, Procter & Gamble, GM, Sprint and American Express.

In August 2007, Imus settled with CBS out of court for a rumored $20 million after threatening to bring a lawsuit against his ex-employer for breach of contract. The shock jock's lawyer--First Amendment expert Martin Garbus--argued that CBS had, in essence, hired him to be offensive and also approved the comments for broadcast, as the show was on a several-second delay.
