MeasureCast, Inc., the first company to provide the streaming media industry with next-day audience size and demographic reports, today released the first of its weekly list of the top 10 Internet
radio broadcasters in the United States.
Notably, ABC Radio, which streams its on-line broadcasts through RealNetwork’s Real Broadcast Network, claimed seven of the top 10 spots in the
MeasureCast rankings. The weekly streaming report for radio is based on Total Time Spent Listening (TTSL) - the total number of hours listeners accessed an on-line station’s streamed content.
MeasureCast’s weekly demographic highlights show that more men (71%) tuned in to Internet radio than did women (29%). Also, nearly 90% of all on-line listening took place on weekdays, with Wednesday
being the top day for listening.
This week’s MeasureCast reporting for 944 stations shows that 73% of all streaming audio listening took place between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. EST. Also, 3 p.m. EST was
the peak listening hour for Internet radio. MeasureCast found that nearly 25% of the listeners were aged 35-44, followed by 25-34 year olds (23%), and 18-24 year olds (21%). Additionally, top format
was talk radio, followed by news/talk and contemporary hit radio/top 40.
Moreover, MeasureCast says the South (33%) had the greatest number of Internet radio listener and California had more
Internet radio listeners than any other state.
