Disney Channels Worldwide Names Lightcap President

Carolina Lightcap of Disney

Disney/ABC Television has found a new chief of Disney Channels Worldwide to replace Rick Ross.

Disney Channels Latin America senior executive Carolina Lightcap has been promoted to president of Disney Channels Worldwide. Lightcap had been senior vice president of programming and creative affairs for Disney Channels Latin America and its chief marketing officer.

Lightcap will report to Anne Sweeney, co-chair of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group. All Disney Channel divisions -- programming and production, business affairs, business planning and development, marketing, brand management, advertising sales and Radio Disney -- will report to Lightcap.

At the same time, Gary Marsh will add the new title of chief creative officer to his current job as president of entertainment, Disney Channels Worldwide. He had been rumored as a strong contender for the top spot at Disney. Marsh will continue to be in charge of all program development and will report to Lightcap.

Under his reign, Ross created massive multimillion-dollar tween and teen franchises, including "Hannah Montana" and "High School Musical." The network is regularly placed in the top three in ratings among all cable networks. Ross had recently been named chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, succeeding outgoing Dick Cook.

A 10-year company veteran, Lightcap has pushed Disney Channels Latin America into the No. 1 cable channel in the region. She joined The Walt Disney Company as vice president of marketing of media networks Latin America, in 2000.

Before that she was vice president of programming, sales and marketing for Sky Latin America Partners, responsible for all direct-to-home satellite television service sales and marketing.
