Facebook for the first time has edged past Google to become the top Internet property for the week ending March 13, according to Hitwise. The world's
biggest social network claimed a 7.07% share of U.S. Web visits during the period, compared to 7.03% for Google. Facebook.com previously reached the No. 1 ranking on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and
New Year's Day as well as the weekend of March 6th and 7th. But it hadn't previously topped Google for a full week.
Over the last year, Facebook's U.S. audience share has grown from about 2.5%
while Google's has remained relatively flat at about 7.0%. As of January, Facebook was the fourth-ranked U.S. site, with 112 million visitors, according to comScore.
