Random House Audio is launching a promotion around Earth Day with "carshare" organizations in several cities that let people rent cars by the hour.

Starting on April 22, Random House will give carshare members free audiobooks at RandomHouseAudio.com/carshare. The company says carshare fleets will be stocked with CD mixes of audiobook clips from bestselling titles.

The carshare organizations are in San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Boulder, Denver, Buffalo, Ithaca, N.Y., and Burlington, Vt. Each will promote via email blasts, social media, their Web sites, and contests, per Random House.

Random House Audio authors will host events at local bookstores in participating cities.--Karl Greenberg
