Magna Boosts 2010 Global Ad Outlook

"After declining an estimated 17.1% in the first half of 2009, French media suppliers recaptured some lost ground in the second half to end the year at -11.2%.  Personal expenditures growth accelerated beginning in the latter part of 2009, and Industrial Production has similarly improved in recent periods in France," Magna global director of forecasting Brian Wieser wrote in a new global ad forecast revision. "As these two variables are among the key factors driving advertising globally, we are thus raising our 2010 growth estimate for total advertising revenues to 2.3% from our previously published expectation of 1.0% growth.  We now estimate media supplier revenues to reach €9.9 billion in 2010 with sustained growth of approximately 1% (vs. previously published estimates of 1.8%) through 2015, at which time media suppliers’ advertising revenues will reach €10.2 billion.  This more cautious stance is informed by reduced estimates of future economic growth given new levels of uncertainty about longer-term prospects for European economies."
