Expanding its push into niche content, Yahoo
announced Tuesday it had agreed to acquire publishing service Associated Content, which boasts 380,000 freelance
contributors and more than 2 million articles. Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the purchase price was reported as $90 million.
"Combining our world-class editorial team with
Associated Content's makes this a game-changer," said Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, in a statement. "Together, we'll create more content around what we know our users care about, and open up new and creative
avenues for advertisers to engage with consumers across our network."
After restructuring over the last year and a half, Bartz has said the company would look to pursue acquisitions that would
further its broader goal of making Yahoo the start page for most people online. Founded in 2004, Associated Content says it has more than 16 million unique users per month and reviews more than 50,000
pieces of content each month, including articles, images, audio and video.
