While the good folks at BP are considering whether or not to do a "top kill" today to try and plug the oil volcano they've created off the coast of Louisiana, the Natural Resources Defense Council is
launching an ad campaign in New York, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Vermont and Wisconsin urging Congress to support of clean energy and climate legislation.
The
ads says "Change shouldn't be this hard. Twenty-nine lost in a West Virginia coal mine. An economy in peril along our Gulf Coast. Mad men using oil profits to threaten the world. Deadly symptoms of a
deadly addiction. And still, Congress won't pass a clean energy climate plan, to cut our addiction to dirty fuels. Because Congress is still addicted to Big Oil influence. It's time for politicians to
break their addiction so we can break ours. Senator Schumer: We need a strong clean energy climate bill. Now." I'd suggest the NRDC forget the ads and spend the money taking Congress to
dinner and a ball game. That usually works.
