Dish Network said Friday it will soon carry local stations in every DMA. The announcement came as the satellite provider said it will have stations available in 29 new markets on June 3.
The
list includes Alpena, Mich., Jonesboro, Ark., Binghamton, New York, and Wheeling, W. Va.
Dish said its announcement came as "President Obama signed the Satellite Television Extension and Localism
Act of 2010 into law, which paved the way" for the Dish initiative. The legislation looked to make local programming available to all satellite customers.
With today's presidential signature, on
June 3, DISH Network plans to begin serving the many rural markets that lack vital local TV signals.
CEO Charlie Ergen stated that with more than 14 million subscribers, Dish is "committed to
offering consumers in all markets -- particularly those living in smaller and rural communities -- a full complement of satellite TV services."
