Fred Wilson On Mobile Bubbles, Blogging & Billionaires

Is the industry setting itself up for a mobile bubble? "Not yet," Fred Wilson, a partner in VC firm Union Square Ventures, tells The New York Times' Bits blog. "I don't think we're getting to see a mobile bubble thus far because I don't see really stupid things happening, yet."

What about Apple and Google (arguably) overpaying for mobile startups? "Apple and Google can absorb overpayments in the mobile market, like their acquisitions of Quattro and AdMob, but we haven't seen major risky mobile investments, yet." That said, Wilson does believe that a mobile bubble is inevitable. "That's the beautiful thing about working in the financial markets; eventually, stupid stuff happens." In Bits' spanning interview with Wilson, he also claims he couldn't be venture capitalist without his blog. "You have to be out there in the hearts and minds of the entrepreneurs, and that's the scarce resource with what we have as investors; it's certainly not the money." Union Square Ventures' portfolio includes Twitter, Foursquare, Zynga, MeetUp, Outside.in, and Etsy.
