Search engine ranking takes into account a site's downtime, according to Matt Cutts. In a YouTube video, he explains how Google bots might take into account Web sites it previously crawled and
indexed, but can no longer find. Cutts explains when a Web site goes down for a day or two it shouldn't hurt search results, but when it's down for several days, Google will likely drop it from the
rankings.
