NFL Cuts New Distribution Deal For Web Content

NFL-H-Page

The NFL said Friday it has established a channel on male-targeted Break.com, featuring news, highlights and other offerings found on NFL.com.

The league is also syndicating NFL.com content to other sites.

The NFL has traditionally been protective of its intellectual property on the Web. Game footage only recently began appearing on ESPN.com after a period in which the site did not offer it. Some time ago, ESPN.com users who clicked on some of the NFL video content were immediately switched over to NFL.com. The league's goal was to drive traffic to its home.

Perhaps signaling a shift, Hans Schroeder, an NFL executive in media strategy and development, stated that the league is "focused on reaching our fans ... in more places."

The channel on the Break Media site also offers video of players who have microphones attached while on the field, as well as locker room speeches. These are two areas that NFL Films has long provided, in addition to information that is useful for fantasy football devotees.

Break Media also has a content agreement with the NHL and NBA, as well as offering sites devoted to mixed martial arts and NASCAR.
