ANA Publishes Fifth Legal Guide For Advertisers

  • December 10, 2010

The Association of National Advertisers has published a legal guidebook for marketers and ad executives. The guidebook is intended to offer insight into advertising law and the potential repercussions of their everyday business decisions.

The new guide, the fifth edition of Please Be Ad-Vised: An ANA Legal Reference Guide for the Advertising Executive, was written by Douglas Wood, General Counsel to the ANA and partner at Reed Smith LLP. The 272-page guide covers social media, privacy, self-regulation, advertising to children, and environmentally friendly product claims.

Among the issues the ANA says the book covers are ownership of materials created by ad agencies; copyright and trademark law vis a vis the creative process; how state and federal regulators are watching and attacking advertising practices; and when companies challenge their competitors' advertising. Please Be Ad-Vised covers new topics including social media, behavioral targeting and ICANN Internet naming. The ANA is selling the book for $350 at http://www.ana.net/ebooks.
