Cuervo Tequila’s latest campaign takes a
stand against any 4 p.m. Friday meetings that impinge on employees’ Summer Fridays.
As the “official sponsor of Summer Fridays,” the tequila brand this week rolls out its
Summer Fridays HQ, available here, described as “the internet’s only corporate benefits portal dedicated to getting you out of the
office.” The portal contains downloadable excuses, out-of-office templates, and office-worthy GIFs as well as cocktail recipes.
One downloadable “all staff” memo reads
“Effective immediately, all employees are strongly encouraged to: close their laptops by 1 p.m. on Fridays; relocate meetings to patios whenever possible; replace the phrase ‘per my last
email’ with ‘logging off for the weekend’" and “prioritize margaritas over miscellaneous administrative tasks.”

A sample doctor’s note from Dr. Marg A. Rita
cites a severe case of “premature weekend onset” and “chronic late-Friday productivity decline” as reasons for employee absences. An out-of-office email template reads,
“I’m not going to pretend I’m in a meeting. It’s Friday afternoon. I’m out. There’s a Cuervo margarita involved. I’ll be back Monday and honestly probably in
a better mood for it.”
Social ads across Cuervo’s various platforms promote the effort, such as seen here, showing bottles of
Cuervo and margaritas in various humorous office scenarios.
The portal also includes reaction GIFs (“for situations where words are insufficient and a margarita-themed GIF communicates
everything”) and video call backgrounds that mimic being in-office.
Cuervo is also offering its own “corporate perk package,” in the form of a reimbursement (up to $10) for
one Cuervo pour or cocktail at any bar across the country by submitting a receipt here by Sept. 11. The Ultimate Summer Friday Promotion
sweepstakes on the portal will award six winners $1,500 to fund their “ideal Summer Friday,” with 300 runners-up receiving $25 toward a Cuervo margarita.
