Newspapers surpassed broadcasters for the first time in the third quarter in total video minutes streamed and the number of video titles uploaded (up 51%), according to the
latest data from analytics
firm TubeMogul and video-hosting service Brightcove. Newspapers had 313 million minutes of video streamed compared to 290 million for broadcasters.
Other highlights included:
- Facebook surpassed Yahoo in number of video streams referred, making them second now only to Google in volume of streams discovered via their site.
- In terms of average viewing-time,
game consoles (i.e. Wii, PlayStation) lead PCs by eight seconds and smartphones (i.e. iPhones) by 45 seconds.
- Viewers watch longest on weekends, but views peak during the work-week.
Broadcasters get their most views on Mondays and Tuesdays (30.25% of their weekly), while other categories peak mid-to-late week.
