Flat-panel TV company Vizio is getting small. The company plans to roll out tablets and cell phones to compete with Samsung, Sony, LG and the like.
The Irvine, Calif., company's
first mobile phone will be called Via Phone. It will have a 4-inch screen, a camera for video calls and another on the other side for taking pictures and videos. Vizio will also roll out Via Tablet
with an 8-inch screen and WiFi, three speakers and a front-facing video camera. The products, running on Google Android, will go on sale this summer.
Vizio's CTO said the strategy is
affordable, feature rich products for "Your typical Wal-Mart shopper."
