GroupOn Groupie

That's what SapientNitro's Nathaniel Perez sounds like, touting the value of "LBS," or local-based social media applications and platforms. There are plenty of those and they're growing fast, but the most interesting ones from Perez's point of view are ones like GroupOn that provide a, well, group dynamic.

"The big thing for LBS is group behavior, and doing things together," he said.

Sounds like a "flash mob" activity. GroupOn has successfully generated a pool of deal hoppers, but I can' see any value for a business (especially a small business that is usually "local") unless you have a fire sale or sell group tours.

I want more of a social aspect. GroupOn always talks about "we all did this..." they leave the we at that though. A great new site called GroupGain explores that to have a more social aspect. Much easier to work together and get an even better detail!
