In the wake of Verizon getting the iPhone, mobile ad exchange Mobclix combed through its own data and surveyed Verizon iPhone owners to see how the move is playing out in the battle for iPhone
customers with AT&T. Here are the key findings:
- AT&T iPhone customers use WiFi an average of 53% of the time vs 38% Verizon iPhone owners.
- 2 in 3 AT&T
customers who switched to Verizon iPhone paid the termination fee.
- The top three reasons for AT&T customers making a switch to Verizon are: reception issues, personal hot spot and
reputation.
- 14% of iPhone 4 users are on the Verizon network, accounting for 4% total of iPhone users.
So the majority of people that have switched to Verizon have paid
AT&T's $325 termination fee instead of waiting for their contracts to expire. Those are some really dissatisfied AT&T customers. Not surprisingly, spotty reception was among the top reasons
people switched. Exactly how AT&T's planned acquisition of T-Mobile could affect the iPhone landscape isn't yet clear, but at least one Wall Street analyst suggested it could lead to increased
problems with the carrier's iPhone service as T-Mobile customers come on board. AT&T said the merger will increase the number of cell sites in crowded markets like New York and San Francisco by as
much as 35% to help provide better service.
