Correction: TV Universe Decline Not A Nielsen First

  • May 4, 2011
A story in the May 3 edition of MediaDailyNews ("Big Bang: TV Universe Declines For First Time Ever, Nielsen Cites Digital Transition, Economy, Multiplatform?") incorrectly reported that Nielsen announced the first-ever decline in its TV universe estimates. Nielsen previously reported a decline in the TV universe in 1992, as a result of adjustments related to the 1990 U.S. Census. The decrease Nielsen announced this week was attributed to three factors: the 2009 transition to digital broadcast spectrum, the effects of the U.S. economic recession, and the impact of Americans utilizing "multiplatform" sources to watch video other than conventional TV outlets.
