Apple Enters The Cloud

  • June 6, 2011
As expected, Apple is entering the Cloud. Following the path of Google and Amazon, Apple CEO Steve Jobs (making an appearance despite taking a medical leave this year) introduced iCloud, which will store information and purchases made through the iTunes store on Internet-based servers and push those purchases to all of a user's devices running the Apple software.

Apple's iCloud will also match music not purchased through iTunes and keep a copy of that music based in the cloud. While the first 5 gigabytes of iCloud storage will be free, the iMatch service, when fully introduced, will cost $25 annually. The iCloud service will also include access to documents (completed via its iWork software suite) and photos (which will be held for 30 days only, to save space). -- Aaron Baar
