Game Spending On Rise

Gaming continues to be a growth segment for consumers. According to the NPD Group, spending on video games, gaming hardware and gaming accessories hit $5.9 billion in the first quarter of 2011, a 1.5% increase over the same period last year. The company noted consumers spent just over $2 billion on new console games and PC game software. They spent an additional 1.85 billion on used games, game rentals, subscriptions, game downloads and downloadable content, mobile games and social games. --Aaron Baar
