Chiquita Brands Partnering With Disney

  • August 2, 2011
Chiquita Brands International and Walt Disney World Resort have signed a multi-year agreement to offer Chiquita and Fresh Express products at various retail venues at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. and the Disney Cruise Line.

Chiquita bananas and Fresh Express salad products will have brand exclusivity within their respective categories throughout the Disney World Resort and the cruise line, reports Progressive Grocer.

For Chiquita Brands, the partnership represents opportunities to expand beyond traditional distribution channels, and to help educate consumers about good nutrition, while for Disney, it represents an extension of its policies to provide kids and adults with nutritious, low-calorie snack and meal options, the companies' executives said.

Walt Disney Company launched nutritional guidelines in 2006, and last year launched "Disney Magic of Healthy Living," a multi-pronged initiative to encourage kids and families to eat healthily and be active. More than 85% of Disney's licensed food portfolio consists of healthier options such as produce and low-fat dairy.

As part of the agreement, Chiquita will sponsor the "Crush 'n' Gusher" at the resort's Typhoon Lagoon, themed around a tropical fruit processing center, and the "Living with the Land" attraction, where Chiquita and Disney will offer nutrition education.

Chiquita also will participate in the "runDisney" marathon series, promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles. Starting with a "Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend" in September, Chiquita will offer guests and participants information about how its fresh, convenient products can help improve personal nutrition.
