The Paris-based Consumer Goods Forum has released a Global Protocol on Packaging Sustainability (GPPS) to help the consumer goods industry better assess the relative sustainability of packaging,
reports
Supermarket News.
Designed by retailers and manufacturers, with a steering committee comprised of representatives from leading grocery and mass market retailers and food/CPG
manufacturers, the GPPS protocol is based on earlier packaging sustainability guidelines developed by the European Organization for Packaging and the Environment (EUROPEN) with ECR Europe and similar
work on metrics for packaging developed by GreenBlue's Sustainable Packaging Coalition.
GPPS can be obtained free from the project's site.
