A new documentary is putting the focus on what we already know: every surface in our physical world, and probably a few human bodies, is plastered with ads. "This Space Available" puts it this
way: If all the billboards in the U.S. were put together tile-style, how many football fields would they cover? Sixty thousand.
The documentary, which premiered at the Doc NYC Film Festival on Nov. 5, asserts that city dwellers around the world are in a grassroots struggle to reclaim their public spaces from a growing glut of
billboards, electronic signs and wrapped vehicles, buildings, buses and taxis and other outdoor advertising – some of it illegal, according to various city codes and beautification acts.
