Burger King has joined the battle of the fries, with the launch of a "new, golden crispy fry."
Responding to overall declines in sales of French fries and competition from Wendy's'
thick-cut fries with sea salt, introduced last year, McDonald's has recently returned to heavy marketing of its own fries, including national efforts as well as a massive multimedia campaign in
Chicago.
Now, BK is getting in the game with its reformulated, thicker-cut fry, which the QSR says produces a "more fluffy, potato flavor," in addition to its crispier exterior.
The
new fries will be available in most BKs in North America by Dec. 5.
As one effort in the launch marketing, BK has designated Friday, Dec. 16 as "Free Fries Friday." On that day,
consumers will be able to get a value-size order of the new fries free (no other purchase required) at BK's around the country. --Karlene Lukovitz
