Vanguarde Media, publisher of African-American titles including
Savoy,
heart & soul and
Honey, is looking at expanding into other media ventures, with its biggest focus on
developing a television presence. The company has formed a “strategic partnership” with ZelnickMedia, which is taking a financial stake in the company. Strauss Zelnick, who has working in publishing,
music, film and TV in the past, is also joining the board of directors of Vanguarde Media. Prior to forming ZelnickMedia, Zelnick served as CEO of BMG Entertainment; and he e was previously president
of 20th Century Fox. His connection to Vangaurde TK Clinkscales dates back to when Clinkscales was president of Vibe Magazine. Among Vanguarde’s investors is former Black Entertainment Television CEO
Robert Johnson. In 2002, Vangaurde says revenues for its three magazines rose 54%.
