Apple Expected To Debut Apple TV, New iPad

It seems to be full-speed-ahead at Apple as the company is reportedly planning to debut a new Apple TV, and at least three next-generation iPad variants, in March.

“Reliable sources familiar with Apple’s upcoming product release have said that the company is in fact launching a new Apple TV alongside the next-generation iPad,” reports 9to5Mac.com.

Regarding the report, MG Siegler says: “It sounds right because I’d imagine Apple will want higher quality video content to show off on the new iPad’s Retina screen.”

“Based on the information out there, this looks like a fairly mundane refresh, although Apple probably doesn't need to overhaul the iPad to sell millions of units in rapid fashion,” according to Econsultancy.com

Apple is hosting a private event on March 7, where Web watchers expect to be dazzled with the company’s new products. Beyond Apple TV and new iPads, CNet summarizes the wildest possibilities from augmented-reality heads-up displays to a quasi “Holodeck.”

“Half the fun of Apple rumors is imagining what the ‘one more thing’ will be -- that new feature or device that changes how we do things on a daily basis,” CNet writes.

Back to the next iPad -- the only thing everyone really expects to debut next week -- eWeek suggests that it can’t come soon enough for Apple.

“Throughout 2011, other slates have plunged into the tablet arena … only to find apathetic customers and a general lack of buzz,” eWeek writes. “This year could prove a little different on the competitive front, as Microsoft gears up to release Windows 8 on tablets and the various Google Android manufacturers adjust their strategies and product lines.”

In the meantime, “there's $500 burning a hole in our pocket, and we want to spend it on Apple's shiny new iThing,” Business Insider half-jokes. “Now.”
