The pure evil that Joseph Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army represents aside, a viral campaign "Kony 2012" to bring the man to justice shows the power of social media to build mass awareness.
The film “Kony 2012” and Invisible Children, which is the advocacy organization behind it, aim to get America’s youth and government leaders to take action. Nothing to date has
worked as well to bring attention to that regional horror show. That includes the original “Invisible Children” documentary when it was released in a traditional format.
Thanks to
the viral campaign, by midday Friday, just three days after its release, more than 70 million people had viewed or seen parts of the video, with the issue trending on Twitter and much of the
mainstream media providing coverage.
