Wireless Industry Works to Prevent Data Theft

  • April 10, 2012

CTIA – The Wireless Industry Association, in concert with the federal government, law enforcement agencies and its major wireless carrier members, has outlined a four step plan deter smartphone thefts and protect consumer data on those devices.

Among the steps are: create a database to prevent reactivation of stolen smartphones, notify and educate consumers about how to lock their phones with passwords, educate consumers about applications that can lock and erased data from their smartphones remotely and educate consumers about how to prevent theft in the first place.

"CTIA and its members have always been strong advocates for the safety and protection of America's wireless users,” said Steve Largent, president and CEO of CTIA – The Wireless Association, in a release. “By working closely with law enforcement, these four steps will help deter smartphone theft and keep America's wireless users safe.”
