In a summer experiment of sorts ABC News will try out an extension of “Good Morning America” with something called “Good Afternoon America.” The new programming move
was expected.
The nine-week effort will start up after Independence Day on Monday, July 9th for the new hour-long show, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., which will be hosted by GMA
personalities, Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer.
GMA regulars such as Sam Champion, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos will be making special appearances. Celebrities, music performances,
pop culture news, as well as original entertainment, lifestyle, health, workplace and consumer reporting will be the main content.
TV networks have been cutting back on their older afternoon
soaps and replacing these shows with news/information efforts both national and local. Also in the mix has been “Katie” from Katie Couric, a highly touted syndication talk show from
Disney-ABC Domestic Television which will run on TV stations starting in the fall.
Last year, ABC said it was cancelling longtime soaps “All My Children”and
“One Life To Live.”
