Giving Microsoft and Windows RT a greater chance of success, Samsung is reportedly at work on a tablet featuring the forthcoming operating system.
“It’s a boon to
Microsoft’s effort to use multiple versions of its flagship Windows operating system to challenge Apple in tablets,” Bloomberg reports.
“The fact that Microsoft announced
last month that it would be producing its own branded tablets apparently isn't stopping Samsung from plans to produce a Windows RT tablet,” The Seattle Times quips.
“For Samsung, which has had some bad
luck with its Android tablets lately -- specifically an injunction against U.S. sales of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 -- a move to embrace Windows RT was inevitable,” AllThingsD writes.
What’s more, “Samsung's move to add as many fingers to as many pies as
it attempts to serve its entire customer base as it seeks to take on the tablet market as it saw with its smartphone dominance,” suggests ZDNet.
Still, “it's not a huge
surprise, as Samsung manufactured many of the prototype Windows 8 tablets Microsoft has used to demo Windows 8 over the last several months,” Business Insider writes.
Meanwhile, Microsoft needed some good news as the company “suffered a
setback last week when Hewlett-Packard … said it won’t back Windows RT from the get-go,” Bloomberg adds.
Adds The Verge: “Windows RT is expected to officially launch in October, and Samsung's tablet is said to be
ready to ship at the same time.”
