Facebook Testing New Timeline Design

Facebook is testing a new layout for user Timelines that moves all posts to a single column and shifts “activity modules” like “Friends” and “Places” to a narrower column on the right.

The prospective redesign, reported by Inside Facebook, would do away with the current dual-column format and make the Timeline appear more like the news feed, with one main update stream. According to the blog, the change would address the complaint of users having to look back and forth between two same-sized columns on the page as they scrolled down to read updates.

With the new look, the timeline of dates would still appear in the upper right corner corner, allowing users to look up posts by month or year. Facebook said it’s testing the new design with a small proportion of users but didn’t provide further details.
