Facebook Updates Comments Feature

Facebook is rolling out an updated commenting system that includes threaded conversations and ranks more relevant and high-quality comments higher.

According to Inside Facebook, the social network has been testing the upgraded comments functionality for pages that people can “follow” since November. Starting next week, they’ll be available on an opt-in basis for all accounts with more than 10,000 fans or followers.

The changes will make comments on page posts look more like those powered by Facebook on third-party sites, which Inside Facebook says have shown threaded conversations and used a ranking algorithm since March 2011. The new system allows  user to reply to specific comment and be notified when someone replies to their comment.

The overall aim of the revamp is to increase interaction via comments with pages and public profiles and keep people sticking around longer per session on Facebook.
