One of the largest
DSPs in China, iPinYou, this week announced that it was selected as the first DSP on the Sina Ad Exchange (SAX), Sina's invitation-only private exchange. Advertisers will now be able to deliver RTB
ads on Sina via iPinYou.
In the release, iPinYou CEO Huang Xiaonan said that the
integration "marks the formal acceptance of RTB by an increasing number of mainstream publishers and increasing advertisers' demand for both cost-effectiveness and high-quality inventories."
RTB is usually associated with low-quality inventory, but the release says that SAX has included a "significant amount" of high-quality inventory from Sina, including "10 plus channels of
its main site." If the inventory truly is high-quality (or at least higher than remnant), there could be considerable draw to advertise via SAX.
The release also hinted at Sina
using RTB to monetize their Weibo traffic (a microblogging website), which has over 400 million registered users.
