VideoInk,com is reporting that Scripps
Networks Interactive is readying a new Hulu-like video portal called ulive.com, which will show off the company’s extensive library of programming from its Food Channel, HGTV and Travel
Channel cable networks. The site will also "develop and release original programming spanning five categories: travel, home, food, parenting, and wellness," VideoInk says, quoting multiple
source. The new site could debut in June.
A Scripps spokesman would not comment today. but Scripps holds its cable upfront Tuesday morning in New York, a likely time to make the
announcement.
The media company is said to be actively fielding pitches for more content for the ad-supported Website. VideoInk said: "Word is that Scripps is searching for
'digital native' content creators who have already demonstrated the ability to succeed online."
